Medical Wire
The Wire Division of Ken-tron Mfg., Inc. acquires large diameter wire and redraws it to smaller diameters (as small as .002″ – less than half the thickness of a human hair). We are capable of developing wire from .002″ to .100″ in quantities as small as one pound. Our expertise includes extensive experience in supplying the needs of medical manufacturers with medical wire to suit virtually any need or application. Our medical wire is typically supplied in the form of spools, coil form, or pay-pack barrels. In order to provide you with the best possible product, our medical wire goes through closely monitored processes including Drawing, Annealing, and Inspection.
Wire Drawing
Our medical wire is stretched and shaped via a process called wire drawing. After being threaded through a carbide or diamond die, the wire is wrapped around the drawing machine capstan. The capstan will take up the increase in footage, once the medical wire moves through the die. The drawing machine can accommodate up to 21 dies, depending on the specifications of the wire. Our medical wire is high quality, close tolerance wire, developed to meet exact specifications, and tested for consistency.
Annealing
The annealing process uses heat to restore elasticity to hardened and overworked metals. It also removes lubricant left by the drawing process. Medical wire may be annealed to achieve customer’s specifications, or to facility further redrawing.
Wire Inspection
In order to produce the quality, close tolerance medical wire Ken-tron Mfg., Inc. is know for, we constantly inspect product at all phases of production. The final inspection encompasses checks for correct customer specifications including spooling, labeling, and diameter. We also verify the wire’s composition, tensile properties, surface quality, roundness as well as the weight necessary to bend the wire to a pre-determined degree. The rigorous Ken-tron Mfg., Inc. quality control system has qualified us for AS 9100 and ISO 9001-2000 Certifications.
